In October I passed through Cundall and Norton-le-Clay, two of Britain’s 24 ‘Thankful Villages’ where all the men and women came home safely from the first world war. I said then that I would try to pass through as many thankful villages as possible in this, the centenary of the world war one and, after 250 miles, I now come to Cayton village. There is only one more thankful village in Yorkshire, which I hope to reach soon, but the war lasted for four years and, if I can, I do intend to continue on to visit those in Derbyshire and beyond.
